In general GSM system involve four major primary interfaces were traffic and signaling information is received and transmitted these interfaces are; A interface, A-ter interface, A-bis interface and Air interface. the A interface exchanges information between the MSC/VLR and TRC, the A-ter interface between the TRC and BSCs, the A-bis interface transmits information between BSC and BTS, while the Air interface operates between the BTS and MS.

The air interface uses Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) technique to transmit and receive the traffic and signaling information between the BTS and MS, the TDMA Technique is use to divide each carrier into eight time slots. These time slots are then assigned to specific users, allowing up to eight conversations to be handled simultaneously by the same carrier. The frequency bands for GSM 900 are (890-915MHz) uplink and (935-960MHz) downlink and GSM1800 are (1710-1785MHz) uplink and (1805-1880MHz) downlink with duplex distance of 45MHz and 95MHz respectively.

The path used to carry information between a mobile station and Base Transceiver Station is known as the Physical Channel. The different information carried on the physical channel is classified as Logical Channel. The logical channels are divided into two categories. Control Channels and Traffic Channels. The Control and Traffic Channels are further sub-divided; there are two types of traffic channels and three categories of control channels with a total of nine different types. Our implementation is basically at the Air interface and many operation can be carried out by our guys to ensure this Air interface operate effectively efficiently and of high standard. This includes:

This includes installation of feeder cables, Panel Antenna, TMA ( Tower Mounted Amplifiers). The feeder is installed by cutting the required number and length of the feeder and the opening mouth are covered to prevent moisture and dirt from entering one end of the feeder is now terminated using feeder connector and later run and attached to the tower ladder with the aid of Clamps to the desired height from which it is connected to the Antenna with Jumper cable either directly or indirectly through the TMA to boost the Signal Level . The cable is now pass inside the shelter and terminated at the cable entry from which its connected to the RBS with jumper cable after all the reliability test such as VSWR/Return Loss, DTF and Insertion Loss had been performed using Antenna, cable and Frequency Analyzer , like ANRITSU SITE MASTER model S332C and BER Site Analyzer.
The Radio Base Station (RBS) handles the radio interface to the mobile station. One RBS can serve 1,2 or 3 Cell. A group of RBSs is controlled by one BSC. RBS implementation is transceiver-oriented, ensuring good redundancy features. This means that as little as possible of the equipment is common to several transceivers.

This philosophy inevitably leads to a master slave relationship between the BSC and the transceiver in the RBS. A logical model of the RBS is built up within the BSC and RBS equipment can be logically defined, connected and disconnected. The main tasks of RBS management are:

  • RBS configuration: This involves the allocation of frequencies to channel combinations and power levels of each cell according to available equipment. If equipment becomes faulty causing the loss of important channels reconfiguration of the remaining equipment is activated sacrificing less important channels.
  • RBS Software handling: This involves the control of program loads.
  • RBS equipment maintenance: RBS faults and disturbances are recorded and logged continuously.
A stable and reliable transport network is essential for good network operation; Microwave radios provide an efficient and rapid way of developing wide coverage telecommunication networks. The use of Mini-Link is particularly suited for cellular application because of its flexibility concerning capacities configuration and space required. It also offers fast deployment in all project phases, from planning to commissioning, it can be used anywhere within the network, where one to seventeen 2Mbps transmission lines are required. As there is no need for heavy mast or towers it can be quickly be mounted on existing buildings or mast. Microwave hops can either be 1+0 hops which means no redundancy if the equipment breaks or fading occurs in the radio path. It can also be of 1+1 character which means that there is redundancy.
